At Digital Tweens, we recognise that between the age of 9 to 12 is a critical period of growth and transition for children, especially when it comes to navigating the digital world more independently. For many children, this phase of greater access and independence begins with receiving their first smartphone. It’s more than just getting a new device, it’s the start of a digital journey that brings both exciting opportunities and new challenges. We refer to this period as digital puberty; a time when tweens begin to form their digital identities, explore new online spaces, and connect with the wider world in ways that are increasingly independent. This of course, for most tweens, coincides with the start of puberty as well as the transition from primary to senior school.
We believe that digital technologies, including smartphones, are tools with immense potential. They can enrich lives, foster creativity, and empower children and young people to achieve their aspirations. However, the power of these devices also comes with significant responsibility. Without the right guidance, they can face risks that they are not equipped to deal with, and that may impact their mental, emotional, and social wellbeing.
Our mission at Digital Tweens is to ensure that children and young people (with the support of their families, educators, and broader communities) are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in the digital world. We understand the unique challenges that arise during the different phases of a child’s life and are committed to providing engaging, practical, evidence-based solutions to help them to thrive with digital technologies.
We envision a world where children and young people are empowered to use technology in ways that enhance their lives and help them grow into responsible, well-rounded individuals. By equipping families and communities with the resources they need, we believe we can create a future where digital technologies are a positive, enriching part of every child’s development.
Join us on this journey and together, let’s support the next generation in becoming responsible and thriving digital citizens.
We provide engaging and informative learning experiences that teach the skills necessary to navigate the digital world confidently and safely. From managing time on tech to understanding privacy and online safety, our programs are tailored to their developmental stage, ensuring they are engaging and impactful.
We offer guidance, training and resources to help you understand the digital challenges your children face and how you can confidently provide ongoing support. The goal is to empower you as a digital parent so that you can walk alongside them as they build their skills and become increasingly competent, safe and independent in their use of technology.
We support schools with student workshops, presentations and webinars for parents, staff professional development, as well as with other resources to help them to guide students as they navigate the challenges of the digital world. Our goal is to ensure that digital citizenship and digital literacy is a core part of every child’s educational experience.
Beyond schools, a wide range of community organisations provide a critical role in supporting, mentoring and guiding children and young people. We can provide training to help your organisation to understand and effectively support the children and young people you engage with to thrive in their use of digital technologies.
